Veterans Property Tax Exemptions
The Assessor’s Office would like to remind all residents of Groton of some of the exemptions available for property taxes.
The last filing day for a veteran’s exemption is September 30, 2007. If you have not done so, file a copy of your honorable
discharge (DD214) with the Town Clerk’s Office. To receive an exemption you must have served 90 days during wartime. Public
Act 99-272 has changed the beginning date of the Vietnam conflict to February 28, 1961. The ending date of July 1, 1975
remains the same.
The Groton Town Council has adopted a local option additional veterans exemption based on higher income limits. If a married
veteran has a total 2006 income of $60,300 or less, or a single veteran has an income of $53,800 or less, they may apply for
this local program at the Assessor’s Office. The last day to apply for this program is October 1, 2007.
If a married veteran has a total 2006 income of $35,300 or less, or a single veteran has an income of $28,800 or less, they may
apply for an additional exemption at the Assessor’s Office. The last day to file for this exemption is October 1, 2007.
If you feel you may be eligible for any of these exemptions or have any questions about the qualifications or benefits, please
call the Assessor’s Office at 441-6660 or come to the Town Hall at 45 Fort Hill Road between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday.
