Groton Social Services (GSS) offers support in the form of direct assistance, case management, advocacy, crisis intervention and information/referral services to individuals and families who are in need of temporary assistance with housing, food and other basic necessities. All services are available free of charge to individuals and families who meet eligibility criteria. Services include:
 

Assistance to Seniors:  Health care/insurance matters, assisted living/congregate/skilled care options, resources concerning elderly abuse and neglect, transportation programs and other matters of concern to senior citizens and their families.
Housing Assistance:  Supportive Housing Program, assistance with housing search, liaison between landlords and tenants, guidance for renters and homeowners regarding court-ordered evictions, foreclosures, evictions and condemnations, Tax Relief for Elderly and Totally Disabled Renters’ Program.
Food Assistance:  Groton Food Locker, Holiday Food Distribution.
Energy Assistance:  Groton Utilities Energy Assistance Program, Operation Fuel, Spicer Fund, Project Warm-Up, Groton Emergency Energy Fund.
Financial Assistance:  Discretionary Fund, Groton Local Assistance Disbursement (GLAD), Spicer Fund, Emergency Food & Shelter Program, (EFSP)
Outreach Programs:  Low Cost Veterinary Services Program assistance to applicants for Mystic Area Shelter & Hospitality (MASH) and other shelters for the homeless, Furniture bank referrals, budget counseling, job search counseling, general information & referral, well being checks.
