Parks & Forestry

The Parks and Forestry Division continues to maintain all parks, athletic fields, school grounds, open space, public properties, 13 cemeteries, and the trails in Copp Property and Pequot Woods. It also hosts the annual Arbor Day event by planting new trees around town. The Copp Property now includes a fenced in dog park for large and small dogs. They will also be implementing a new marking system of trails at the Copp Property. Esker Point now has a boat launch for non-motorized boats and a picnic area. The Town of Groton continues to acquire more open space and Parks and Forestry puts in more new playgrounds each year. The new Tercentennial Playground at Poquonnock Plains Park is being dedicated on October 11, 2008, at the annual Fall Festival. The Parks division is in the process of re-doing the landscaping at the Town Hall to be finished in time for the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Groton Town Hall. Through the efforts of the Parks Division and the Department of Public Works, Groton was selected as a Tree City USA for the thirteenth consecutive year.
