ELECTION INFORMATION

August 12, 2014 Republican Primary
You must be a register Republican to participate in this primary.  Mail in registration for a new voter must be post marked or received by the Registrar of Voters, or the Department of Motor Vehicles, or a voter registration agency, by August 7, 2014.  New voters may apply in person to their Registrar of Voters or Town Clerk up until 12:00pm of August 11, 2014.  Unaffiliated Voters, who do not apply in person to registrar, must file their application for enrollment with their registrar by August 7, 2014. An unaffiliated voter may apply for enrollment to the Republican Party in person, to the Registrar of Voters up until 12:00 noon of August 11, 2014 in order to be eligible to vote in the August 12, 2014 primary.
This Primary is to select a Republican Candidate for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Comptroller for the election on November 4, 2014.

If you are unable to vote in person on Election Day, request an ABSENTEE BALLOT from the TOWN CLERK. Absentee Ballots are available July 22, 2014. To receive the absentee ballot, an APPLICATION must be filed with the Town Clerk. The application is available at the Town Clerk’s office.  You can request an application by calling the clerk’s office at 860-441-6640 or by downloading an application from the Secretary of the State’s web site, www.sots.ct.gov.

NOVEMBER 4, 2014 State Election
Polling places are open from 6am to 8pm.

New Voter Election Day Registration Law:
Any person who qualifies as eligible to register to vote may register and cast a ballot on Election Day at the Registrar of Voters Office, 2 Fort Hill Road from 6 am – 8 pm.  Please contact the Registrar's, if you have additional questions (860) 441-6650.  
Eligibility to Vote:

  1.  18 years of age as of November 4, 2014
  2.  U.S. Citizen
  3.  Resident of Groton, CT
  4.  Have not been convicted of a disenfranchising felony, or if so, your voting rights have been restored

Absentee Ballots are available beginning October 3rd.  In order to be eligible to vote by Absentee Balloting, the elector must expect to be unable to appear at the polling place during the hours of voting for one to the following reasons:

  1. Your active service in the Armed Forces of the United States
  2. Your absence from the town during all of the hours of voting
  3. Your illness
  4. Your religious tenets forbid secular activity on the day of the election or referendum
  5. Your duties as an election or referendum official at a polling place other than your own during all the hours of voting
  6. Your physical disability

If you determine that you are unable to vote in person on Election Day, you may request an Absentee Ballot from the Town Clerk's Office. To receive the absentee ballot, an APPLICATION must be filed. You may also print out an application from this website: www.sots.ct.gov .  You can then either mail the application to the Town Clerk's office, 45 Fort Hill Road, Groton, CT 06340, or present the application in person. The Town Clerk's office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:30 pm. 

Last day to REGISTER TO VOTE in person is October 28th. Last day to REGISTER TO VOTE by mail is October 21st.  The Registers of Voters office is located at 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton CT 06340.  Please call the Registrars of Voters for more registration information and hours of operation at 860-441-6650.
